As the cliche goes, "with great power comes great responsibility." Well in the non-comic-book world in which we all live, it works the other way around. If you are responsible for something, you must be given proper authority to handle the responsibility. That's why police officers have immense power: They are responsible for the safety and sanctity of society as we know it. This requires them to be given default "permission" to act when necessary.
This video applies to anyone who manages people, not just police sergeants and lieutenants. Send this to your favorite micromanager and stop asking for permission to do your job; you don't need it!
